The story behind Árya and Marcia Rizzo
Civil Engineering or Psychology? That was the dilemma I faced as a young person when choosing which course to study. I opted for the security I envisioned by following in my mother's footsteps as a professor in the Civil Engineering program, and ended up choosing that option.
From then on, everything went according to plan: I passed the university entrance exam, completed my degree, did a professional internship in Brazil and Switzerland, got a job as a structural engineer in England and then in Australia—in short, everything seemed perfect to the world. However, I knew something wasn't right. The engineering career, the excellent salary, the supposed security, and life abroad didn't make sense. Something was very wrong.
Faced with this situation, profound questions began to arise about what truly made sense to me, which ended up having a substantial impact on my life. Full of fears, I decided to return to Brazil and sought psychotherapy to help me with this reflection, while learning more about Psychology and its various branches. Then, with a more mature idea, I began my Psychology degree at PUC-Rio.
From the moment of great anguish and anxiety when I questioned my career choices, I have always sought support in psychotherapy to help me through these and other difficult times. With this experience, the interest in becoming a psychologist began to make more and more sense, which became evident during my professional internship at PUC-Rio and the Institute of Psychiatry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
Upon completing my undergraduate studies, I moved to the federal capital and pursued a master's degree in Human Development and Health Psychology at the University of Brasília. At the end of this intensive training period, I felt ready to inaugurate Ágora Psique, a space guided by ethics, responsibility, and patient care in a safe and welcoming environment.
